What to Expect
Our Concrete & Excavation Process
Five steps. No shortcuts. Every project — from a 400 sq ft patio to a full driveway replacement — follows the same framework. Because the process is what makes the concrete last.
Step 1
Site Eval
Larry comes to your property, measures the area, checks soil type and drainage, identifies any obstacles (tree roots, old concrete, utility lines), and discusses your goals. You get a written quote with no surprises — usually within 48 hours.
Step 2
Excavate & Grade
We excavate to the correct depth for your project — typically 6 to 8 inches for a driveway — and grade the sub-base so water drains away from your home, not toward it. This is the step most contractors skip, and the number-one reason concrete fails prematurely.
Step 3
Form & Reinforce
We set rigid wooden forms to the exact shape and elevation of your pour, then lay rebar or wire mesh on chairs — not flat on the dirt, which is a common shortcut. Reinforcement prevents cracking and spreading, especially in Alabama's expansive clay soil.
Step 4
Pour & Finish
We pour ready-mix concrete at the correct slump (water-to-cement ratio), screed it level, float it smooth, and apply your chosen finish — broom, trowel, stamped, or stained. We cut control joints at the right spacing to manage cracking. This is where craftsmanship shows.
Step 5
Cure & Clean-Up
Concrete needs time to cure — we don't rush it. We apply curing compound or water-cure as needed, remove forms, backfill edges, and clean the site so it looks like we were never there (except for your new concrete). We'll tell you exactly when it's safe to walk and drive on it.
Before We Start
What to Expect When You Hire Us
Communication: Larry calls you before the project starts to confirm the schedule. You get a text the day before we arrive. If weather delays us, you hear from us — not silence.
On-Site: Larry is on your property for the work. Not in an office, not on another job — on your site, making sure the prep and pour are done right.
Timeline: Most residential projects take 2–3 days for prep and pour. We will give you an honest timeline before we start and update you if anything changes.
Clean-Up: We remove forms, backfill edges, and clean the site so it looks like we were never there — except for your new concrete.
After: We tell you exactly when it is safe to walk and drive on the concrete. We follow up to make sure everything looks right.
