How to Prepare for Excavation & Concrete Work

April 10, 2025 Larry Rowe

What you should do before our crew arrives to make your concrete project go smoothly.

You have scheduled your concrete project. Now what? Here is how to prepare your property so the job goes smoothly.

Before We Arrive

  • Mark underground utilities — we call 811 (Alabama One-Call), but if you know where any private lines (irrigation, propane, septic) are, let us know.
  • Clear the area — move vehicles, outdoor furniture, planters, and anything else near the work zone.
  • Provide access — make sure our truck and equipment can reach the site. If gates are locked, please unlock them.
  • Identify sprinkler heads — if you have irrigation, flag the heads so we do not damage them.
  • Discuss with neighbors — if equipment will be near property lines, give your neighbors a heads up.

On Pour Day

  • Be available by phone — in case we have questions about your site.
  • Keep kids and pets inside — concrete trucks and equipment are dangerous. Please keep children and animals away from the work area.
  • Plan for noise — excavation and concrete pouring is loud. Plan accordingly.

After the Pour

  • Stay off the concrete — we will tell you exactly when it is safe to walk and drive on it.
  • Do not place heavy objects — wait at least 5 days before placing heavy furniture on patios.
  • Follow curing guidance — we will give you specific instructions for your project.

Weather Considerations

We monitor the weather and will reschedule if rain is forecast during the pour. We never pour in rain — it compromises the surface.
